Hyundai SONATA
The exterior of the all-new Sonata is long, light and low. The high beltline allows for a long, sleek roofline accented by the third window. A monoform side profile includes flowing lines highlighted by a Hyundai signature chrome accent that spans the length of the car.
The new Sonata is powered by a choice of engines. The new Theta II GDI 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with a Gasoline Direct-Injection (GDI) fuel delivery system, contributes to improved fuel efficiency and lower emissions. The additional all-new 2.0-liter Theta II turbocharged GDI engine offers an unprecedented combination of segment-leading fuel efficiency and power - with a 33 mpg highway rating, and 274 horsepower. Hyundai's turbocharged engine features a twin-scroll turbocharger that when combined with the GDI system results in instantaneous power delivery.
As implemented in the 2011 Sonata Hybrid, Direct Hybrid Blue Drive is now a full parallel hybrid system. The Sonata Hybrid can be driven in zero emissions, fully electric drive mode at speeds up to 62 miles per hour or in blended gas-electric mode at any speed. When the car comes to a stop and the electrical load is low, the engine is shut down to completely eliminate idle fuel consumption and emissions. The power and energy density of this new lithium battery type allowed Hyundai engineers to create a lighter and more compact battery pack that maximizes Sonata cargo space. In addition to the 20-30 percent mass reduction, the lithium polymer battery is 40 percent smaller in volume and 10 percent more efficient.
