New York Auto Show Goes FOR the Dogs!
New York Auto Show Goes FOR the Dogs!
From adoption to dancing robots, experiences that go beyond the vehicles
The New York International Auto Show is now open through April 12, 2026, and while the latest cars and trucks are the main attraction, this year, some of the stars have four legs and are trying to steal the show.
From rescue dogs you can meet and interact to learning how Companion Dogs play such a valuable role in someone’s life, to Hyundai’s dancing robot canines performing choreographed routines, the Show offers a different kind of experience — one that adds a little heart, a little surprise and plenty of reasons for families to linger a little longer.
A Dog Park Full of Puppies in the Middle of the Show
At the Subaru exhibit, the Subaru Loves Pets area offers a welcome change of pace and a chance to slow things down. Step inside and you’ll find a space designed to feel like a small dog park. Managed by volunteer handlers, the experience is intentionally hands-on, with families encouraged to get down on the ground, pet the dogs and enjoy a quiet moment away from the busy Show floor.
The dogs come from Rescue Dogs Rock NYC, a non-profit organization dedicated to saving abused, at-risk and medically fragile animals and helping them find permanent homes. It’s not just a feel-good stop. At past shows, some of these dogs have even met their future owners right on the Show floor.
Robot Dogs Learn the Two-Step
Across the Show floor, a very different kind of canine is drawing crowds. At the Hyundai exhibit, robotic dogs known as Spot perform choreographed routines set to music, stopping visitors mid-stride as they dance, move and interact in ways that feel both futuristic and surprisingly familiar.
Part performance, part technology showcase, the robots offer a glimpse into how advanced robotics are already being used in Hyundai’s manufacturing operations in the United States, while still delivering a moment of pure entertainment.
More Than Just a Meet-and-Greet
Visitors can also connect with another side of the canine world at the Canine Companions exhibit. Here, the focus shifts to the important role service dogs play in supporting people with disabilities. Visitors can meet some of the dogs and learn more about the training and dedication behind these highly skilled companions, adding an educational dimension to the experience.
