SUVs and Crossovers Take Center Stage at the New York Auto Show

From compact crossovers to three-row family SUVs, visitors can compare today’s most popular vehicles side by side.

SUVs and crossovers now account for almost 80% of vehicles on the road, and the 2026 New York Auto Show, taking place April 3–12 at the Javits Convention Center in NYC, brings them together in one place in a family-friendly environment.

From compact crossovers designed for everyday economical driving to three-row SUVs built for families and road trips, visitors can explore and compare the vehicles in the product segment of their interest.

Use the show to compare by size and by flexibility, comfort, efficiency, and how a vehicle fits into your daily life. The Auto Show makes those comparisons easy, offering a hands-on, no-pressure environment where buyers can see, sit in, and compare vehicles across brands.

Big Demand, Two Clear Directions
Today’s SUV shoppers tend to fall into two broad groups, both well represented at the New York Auto Show.

Three-row SUVs continue to appeal to families and active households that need room for passengers, gear, and longer trips. At the same time, smaller crossovers have surged in popularity by offering smart interior space, easier maneuverability, and everyday versatility without a large footprint.

2027 Kia Telluride Hybrid
The 2027 Kia Telluride continues as a popular three-row midsize SUV and, for the first time, offers an available hybrid powertrain. Buyers can choose between hybrid efficiency or traditional turbocharged gas power, along with available all-wheel drive and seating for seven or eight passengers.

The lineup also includes the Telluride X-Pro, which adds increased ground clearance and features designed for more rugged use. Telluride is well suited for families and active households looking for space, comfort, and flexibility in a single vehicle.

2026 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid
The Toyota RAV4 continues to anchor the compact SUV segment with an exclusively electrified lineup. Shoppers can choose between hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions, both designed to balance efficiency with everyday usability.

Available all-wheel drive and multiple design themes allow drivers to tailor RAV4 to their lifestyle. RAV4 is well suited for drivers and small families looking for an efficient, versatile SUV for daily life and weekend travel.

2026 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid
The Subaru Crosstrek blends compact dimensions with a more rugged personality and adds an available hybrid powertrain for 2026. Standard all-wheel drive remains a core feature across the lineup, paired with ground clearance that supports light off-pavement use.

With trims ranging from comfort-focused to adventure-ready, Crosstrek is well suited for drivers who want a small SUV that handles city driving while staying confident in changing weather and on weekend getaways.

2026 Jeep Grand Wagoneer
The Jeep Grand Wagoneer sits at the large end of the SUV spectrum, offering three rows of seating, generous cargo space, and a more premium interior experience. For 2026, the lineup is streamlined under the Jeep brand while continuing to offer multiple powertrain choices.

Buyers can opt for a powerful twin-turbo gas engine or a planned range-extended electric option designed to combine electric driving with long-distance confidence. Grand Wagoneer is well suited for families who want maximum space, comfort, and road-trip capability.

See What the Numbers Don’t Show
Sales data shows what’s popular, but choosing the right SUV often comes down to seeing it in person. At the New York Auto Show, visitors can sit in every row, check cargo space, and compare interiors and features across brands, all without sales pressure.

“One of the biggest advantages of the New York Auto Show is that families can really take their time,” said Mark Schienberg, President of the New York International Auto Show. “You can open the doors, sit in every row, and compare vehicles side by side to see what truly fits your lifestyle.”

With hundreds of vehicles from more than 30 manufacturers on display, the Show offers a rare opportunity to compare how different automakers approach space, comfort, technology, and everyday usability.
